About The Berkeley Cup

The Berkeley Cup was established in 2001 to honor Michael J. Berkeley, a cherished member of the Atlantic Golf Club who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001. Michael’s golf journey began at the age of 12 as a caddie at Winged Foot Golf Club, where he later broke barriers as the first caddie of color to become a member. His passion for golf and dedication to the community led to memberships at several prestigious clubs, including Hudson National Golf Club and Muirfield Village Golf Club. The event, initially started by Rick Hartmann at Atlantic in 2000 to celebrate caddies, was renamed in Michael’s honor. The Berkeley Cup celebrates his legacy and supports the caddie community through scholarships and sponsorships awarded by the Michael J. Berkeley Foundation.
